Tame Impala are set to release their album on the 18th of July, it is slightly shorter than Lonerism (51:33) with its 51:06 length.

Disciples is the latest single to drop from the new project and now I can finally say Tame Impala have their sound, I feel that they are a polished form of their last album Lonerism which was fantastic anyway and featured some incredible production and instrumentation. Disciples is only 1:48 long, but it's spacey gutair, fantastic chords, and Kevin Parker melodic as ever. What I love most is that Tame Impala hasnt forgotten about the success of Lonerism, but has developed a more psychedelic sound which is more tranquil In comparison to the rock heavy Lonerism. This track is making me look forward to the release as all the songs so far has given me reason to believe it will be a great record.

 As much as I appreciate all types of music, UK rap (especially London Grime/Rap) is something that hasn't really appealed to me unless it was Dizzee Rascal's "Boy in Da Corner" album which has set pace for many grime artists today. Although if I have to pick my favourite it would probably be Roots Manuva which is an addition as to why I love Dels, the album version actually has him in it. Capsize has a fantastic dark beat with a staggering bass line which is grime to a tee, Joe Goddard's production is fantastic on this song as well as on the rest of the album. Del's flow is impeccable and obviously the subject matter which is mostly political also makes the song great despite it being something you would hear in a rave. I compare this song to Roots Manuva's Witness (1 Love), [which you may have heard on the TV show Skins]. in terms of production due to the upbeat bassline also. Despite that the song came out in 2011 I feel he is extremely underrated and should be the future of UK rap but especially London's sound.

This song is by far one of my favourites. I know this because I can never get bored. The song resembles Blondie's Heart Of Glass with it's synthpop dream type sound. The vocals of Régine Chassagne are replaced by the usual singer Win Butler and a right move because I don't think his voice would've complemented the sound of the song. What I like most is how Régine's voice stays completely coherent and beautiful as the song progresses, you can hear everything she is saying and it really adds to the whole suburbia concept of the album. The song is an anthem that mesmerises me whenever I listen to it and it's a song that I can't get bored of.

Told you it sounds like Heart of Glass...
Another single from the psychedelic groove sensation of Australia Tame Impala. Well it has finally been confirmed that we will be getting some new music from Tame Impala and I'm very excited by this.


In promotion of the new album, "Currents" the second single " 'Caus I'm A Man" was released on the 6th April. From listening to both Let It Happen and this track I can hear that this whole album is going to be a mellowed chilled out album which would be purely psychedelic. Songs such as Mind Mischief, Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything We Could Control and Elephant (from their "Lonerism" album) are so different to the songs that have been released lately that you would ask yourself if you were listening to the same person or group.

This song is a prime example of psychedelia. The song is just so chilled out, as if you're listening to a dream, Kevin Parker's vocals are particularly sublime on this track and you can hear the distinct melodies in his voice. The hook of the song has the correct amount of bass and it ties in well with all the vocals, Let it Happen didn't involve a guitar (in case you didn't notice) but in this new song it returns with some very psychedelic chords. From listening to this track I'm more excited for the release. It is obvious Tame Impala are experimenting with a new way of making their psychedelic songs and it seems to be working so far.

Lonerism is an album that everyone should listen to, but obviously not everyone is open minded to that kind of music, regardless of this it is obvious that the Australian band have some serious talents, their groovy psychedelic synths, vocals and instruments leave a sense of adventure in your earlobes especially when Kevin Parker stops singing and allows the instrumentation mesmerise you.

Innerspeaker was an album which set the signature Tame Impala sound however this was a debut and Tame Impala wasn't really able to develop more of this sound. Then Lonerism came which is one of my favourite albums of all time. I felt that in this album Tame Impala ventured into a wide variety of psychedelic rock. Even though I listened to Lonerism before Innerspeaker, Lonerism just sounded more polished more thought out. So now I can only expect improvement...

Let It Happen was released March 11th but obviously with my busy 18 year old life I was too busy to write any opinion. I could here immediately that Tame Impala have ventured into new sounds, however I feel this song is more robotic wit they synthesised everything. But I'm not complaining. The song is groovy, The song has elements of their original styles and It is pleasant to listen to. However it gets a bit repetitive and I feel that it didn't need to be 7 minutes.

When pop Music finally discovers that it can be listen-able without having to creating the odd sensation in your head of "this is trash, but it's catchy and it won't leave".

Paul Dixon or as we know him "Fyfe" is a relatively new artist originating from Manchester, Northern England. His debut record "Control". The album itself was released on the 9th of March on CD and MP3 via Rough Trade however the vinyl versions are to be released on the 16th.

Since developing my obsession with Rough Trade (the coolest and most abstract record store around) I noticed via their website that Fyfe's album was an exclusive. Spotify has the album available so I gave it a listen (full review to come) however the song "Solace" really reached out to me. The angelic however subtle melodies of both Fyfe's voice and the various instrumental chords join together to make a perfect song. 

What I love the most is the fact that the song has nothing major apart from Fyfe's vocals and a small amount of computerised snares. But it gets to the hook and the bass and the chords just tie together in such a fantastic way. The production of this song as stated is just so subtle but it works so well. The song is just fantastic.

If Pop sounded like this on now, I would buy into it more as I feel as if Pop nowadays (Top 40 Chart) is just extremely repetitive it bores me. However Fyfe should continue to make music like this and explore different types of production however I love the production on this song and the rest of the album.

A friend told me to give Purity Ring a try and obviously me being a music lover and all decided to give them a listen. I started with their "Shrines" album which came out back in 2012. The album is full of adventurous production and psychedelic lyrics however I feel that most of the songs sound the same and lack that star quality that makes me want to play it all the time, I feel as if they should incorporate a different and wider range of sounds which will bring out the vocals of Megan James and improve the production of Corin Roddick
However I like the album as a whole but my favourite song on the album has to be   Track 10 - Lofticries. 

What striked me when I heard the song was actually the drop which comes in at around 17 seconds, prior to the trap induced synth intro. The mid range bass is consistent throughout but with fluctuations of the synths and various instrumentals. The thing I love the most is the chord that plays throughout the main part of the song, it give it a very distinct purity ring style of music which actually counters my previous comments on the album. 

I feel that Megan's James vocals on the song work hand in hand and the song wouldn't be what it is if she didn't have an input, the sweet sound of her voice reminds me of a lullaby. When looking at the lyrics I discovered it is actually about a murder (courtesy of genius' annotaters") which blew me away due to the subtly of the song. 

One thing I don't like though is the bit near the end where the beat shifts completely and moves into a dark electronic fusion to end it. It works for the song but I'm not really a fan of it. 

To conclude I'm in love with this song at the moment, especially for it wonderful and ambitious production.

Right Quick Track Review

Have you heard Sintra?? Have you?? OH MY DAYS, You Must!!

Right so I was listening to Flume after coming across his hit track with collaborator "Chet Faker", "Drop The Game" (Which I also recommend). I enjoyed that track so I decided to check out Flume's album. 

Sintra is track 1 and what a track it is... 

The song itself is an instrumental with some sampled vocals and is an electronic beat however the typical styling of increasingly popular in EDM/Electronic/Dubstep etc. Doesn't reflect in this exact song because the Australian artist uses a trap style beat instead of the traditional thumping bass, then a steady sometimes long build up to the ultimate drop, this song doesn't have that which is what I love. It's different and the beat is perfect for freestyle raps, I know this because this is what I rap to with the "Squaa". The only thing bad about this song is that it is only 2 minutes and 35 seconds but I play it other and other again.

The song has an upbeat and jumpy rhythm that you can just bop your head too, the treble on the song is light so it brings out the deep bass sample on the main part of the song, at the beginning of the song the light bass hits and the treble comes in to supplement the bass explosion about 2 seconds after. But let me not give too much away have a listen yourself, (there is also a bass boosted version for those of you who love bass)



When recommending this song to someone, just make it clear to them that Tomification said so
